Training..

It can be divided into 3 parts...

Part one(Trap training)

You should start training, when your birds are 30 days old.Start with trap training them,so that they know how to get in and out the loft. For this, use a small settling cage on the landing board and put the birds inside this cage, the bird in the settling cage should be able to enter the orginal loft through the trap door only. Now while the birds are still in the settling cage on the landing board, put some food in the food tray placed inside the orginal loft, make sure u always whistle while you feed them (this serves as the feed call). Now since the birds are very hungry, they will try to enter the orginal loft through the trap door.Do similarly for 1 week ,by this time they will learn to trap and will recognice the feed call (whistle).after 7days you dont have to use the settling cage...u can do it without the settling cage.On the 8th day, keep the loft doors open.......so that the birds gets out at will.Remember you should not feed them before you let them out, allow them to fly freely for an hour. Now the make the feed call(whistle),then yours birds will rush into your loft since they are hungry.Repeat this everyday.......

Part two(Ranging)

Now allow them to fly freely around the loft for the next 1.5 months, during this time they will start to range ,and go out of their territority, this process is very essential to developed their homing abilities.

Part three(Road trips)

Now your birds will be around 2.5 - 3 months old.Now its time to start tossing them .Do the tossing on alternate days with 1 day rest in between.First start tossing them about 3 km away from home,do it again from the same distance but from diffrent directions.so you will have to toss your birds atleast 4 times from a 3 km mark(ie,from north, south, east ,west). Now toss at 6 km(4times),then at 10 km(4 times),15(4 times),25 km(once),50 km(once),75 km(once),100 km,then its upto you...you can go further,if you want. !!!By this time your birds will be perfect racers....!!!

I hope this helps

Regards,

Dr.Boney Rajan
