Harry,
This bird has never been out. I have had a terrible hawk problem and she is my only other yellow Trenton hen i have so she is inside for protection. So I do not think it is a wound of some kind. It feels like a hard mass under the skinand looks terrible. I tried to see if i could open the scabby place but it is hard as a rock..

I have a young bird of about 3 months of age. Today I noticed her looking kind of listless. I examined her and found a lump on her abdomen just below her rectum. It has a large black circle that looks like a big blood scab . The lump itself is about the size of a small plum maybe 1" across. Has any one seen anything like this before ? Could it be a parasite larvae inside like a blow fly... Though I do not think we have them here in Maine. It appears to have bled and has some bloody cracks around the sides and her skin is yellowish in color where it is..and Their Responses:
Thanks
Richard
I have seen that plenty of times. Normally it's a wound of some kind, usually with a foreign object of some kind in it, a BB or a wire strike or a piece of something the bird struck when flying. The large scab forms around the object and when it comes off the object comes out. The lump is probably scar tissue and will eventually go away.
Harry
Richard,
It is canker. Treat individually. Also if you gently, but firmly, press around the mass , slowly increasing the pressure with your fingers it can be expelled through the rectum.
Harry. Do your birds fly backwards?
