Letter To NY,NY DA's Office re: Mike Tyson/PETA

Hello Pigeon Fanciers!!

I will post a letter in today's blog that was passed on to me from a Pigeon Pals' club Member. I have to give Kay full marks for having the loyalty needed to write such a letter to back up the things she believes in. I must say our neighbours to the south have no problem standing up for and voicing their beliefs to protect their pursuit of happiness. I myself have a hard time with any organization that fires off such a tirade with no visible proof of such actions and seemingly no research into the people's lives such harsh statements affect. Please enjoy your "subscriber's" results video after Kay's letter and don't forget to voice your own opinion on what promises to be a hot topic in our sport.

RE: PeTA Complaint against Mike Tyson

Dear Mr Hynes:
I am writing in support of Mr Tyson and his Pigeon hobby. Pigeon Racing is a very respectable hobby. We as pigeon hobbyists spend a great deal of time and money on this hobby. Most of us just spend the money and get little or no money in return and are satisfied with that. The racing pigeon hobby is a hobby that brings an immense amount of pleasure and enjoyment in breeding, training and racing for Individuals as well as Families. If any money is put on a race it is done with One Loft Races where pigeon fanciers from all across the world send their young pigeons to race together from one loft. It is all done legally and papers are filed with the IRS.
We have 2 National Homing Pigeon Organizations in the
USA who represent the Racing Homer Fanciers. The American Racing Pigeon Union http://pigeon.org/ and the International Federation of Homing Pigeons http://www.ifpigeon.com/ Together we are 50,000 strong or more. Homing Pigeons have played an important role in wars for a long time. They were often used as military messengers, thanks to their homing ability, speed and altitude. It is a very wholesome hobby. In 1871 during the Franco-Prussian War when Paris was surrounded by Prussian troops, hot air balloons were used to transport homing pigeons past enemy lines. Microfilm images were then taken of hundreds of messages, allowing letters to be carried back into Paris by the pigeons from as far away as London. More than one million different messages traveled this way during the four month siege. During World War II, the United Kingdom used about 250,000 homing pigeons. The Dickin Medal, which is the highest possible animal's decoration for valor, was awarded to 32 pigeons, including the United States Army Pigeon Service's G.I. Joe and the Irish pigeon Paddy. The UK maintained the Air Ministry Pigeon Section in World War II and for a while thereafter.

PeTA on the other hand is a terrorist organization and not a reputable organization. Please see below.
17 July 2005. After more than 100 dead dogs were dumped in a trash dumpster over four weeks, police in Ahoskie, N.C., kept an eye on the trash receptacle behind a supermarket. Sure enough, a van drove up and officers watched the occupants throw in heavy plastic bags. They detained the two people in the van and found 18 dead dogs in plastic bags in the dumpster, including puppies; 13 more dead dogs were still in the van. Police say the van is registered to the headquarters of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and the two occupants, Andrew B. Cook, 24, and Adria Joy Hinkle, 27, identified themselves as PETA employees. An autopsy performed on one of the dogs found it was healthy before it was killed. Police say PETA has been picking up the animals -- alive -- from North Carolina animal shelters, promising to find them good homes. Cook and Hinkle have been charged with 62 felony counts of animal cruelty. In response to the arrests PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said it's against the group's policy for employees to dump animals in the trash, but "that for some animals in North Carolina
, there is no kinder option than euthanasia."
The story of them killing animals isn't even unusual. According to PETA's own filings, in 2004 PETA killed 86.3 percent of the animals entrusted to its care -- a number that's rising, not falling. Last year PETA took in $29 million in tax-exempt donations. It simply has other priorities for the funds, like funding terrorism. But don't take my word for it: I got my figures from
http://www.PETAkillsAnimals.com -- and they have copies of PETA's state and federal filings to back it up. The bottom line: if you donate money to PETA because you think they care for and about animals, you need to think some more. PETA literally yells and screams about how others "kill animals" but this is how they operate?.
The Center for Consumer Freedom is running a petition calling for on the Internal Revenue Service to revoke the tax-exempt status of the "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals."

Despite its deceptively warm-and-fuzzy public image, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) has donated over $150,000 to criminal activists -- including those jailed for arson, burglary, and even attempted murder. In 2001, PETA donated $1,500 to the North American Earth Liberation Front, a criminal organization that the FBI classifies as "domestic terrorists." And since 2000, rank-and-file PETA activists have been arrested over 80 times for breaking various laws during PETA protests. Charges included felony obstruction of government property, criminal mischief, assaulting a cabinet official, felony vandalism, performing obscene acts in public, destruction of federal property, and burglary.
PeTA is just trying to sensationalize on yet another public figure and really do not care about the animals in question. We as Pigeon Handlers do care about the birds and take exceptionally good care of them and the hobby.
