Canadian Pigeon Racing's Tony Alves

Howdy Folks!!

I would like start by welcoming all our latest followers and friends and thank them for all of their thoughts, comments, posts and re tweets. Today's blog will have another story compiled from an interview conducted by our senior member Rae Lewis. You will also find my PIGEON POKER midweek update and the Racer's Catalogue and Insider's Guide results video can be viewed in the player below.

The following story is about one of Canada's leading pigeon racers and breeders. Included will be Rae's story and samples taken from Tony's website and the Canadian International One Loft Race

Pigeon racing is sport that has continued throughout the ages, with knowledge and skills past down to the youth of the future generation. Our interview today is a wonderful story about a young boy who started with pigeons at seven years of age. His uncle gave him his very first pair of birds. At the age of ten he had his own loft built. By the age of thirteen he had his first true racing pigeons, from his teacher’s father known as Joe Petre. Mr Petre was well known as a long distance pigeon racer in the Toronto area. When he was sixteen races were won with only a seven bird team. Over time Tony Alves has earned an excellent reputation as a true sportsman. In competition, he has gained some of the most impressive performance results documented.

Tony is certainly a wealth of knowledge when it comes to pigeon racing. A great tip for someone starting would be to take the time and visit him. Key to his success surrounds racing top quality birds while maintaining them properly. It is his belief that proper facilities are essential to maintaining proper health. Keep the loft dry and well ventilated, while avoiding over crowded conditions.

Today people are very busy and time is important. Tony believes that one loft races will continue to grow because people lack time. People will breed the birds and send them to one loft races to compete in true competition. To that end Tony is building a totally new facility for this racing season. He will be holding The Canadian International One Loft Race with $100,000 in prize money. Entries are being filled all across the country from coast to coast. Birds are being accepted from April 10 to May 30/2010. We are assured by Tony that this race will be well worth attending. The Alves/Ganus Lofts can be contacted at 905-478-1511 and they are located just outside of Newmarket Ontario.

We at Pigeon Pals wish Tony well in his new venture in pigeon racing while keeping our fingers crossed for fine weather for the event. The final race is scheduled for August 28, 2010 or next favorable day from Cochrane Ont. This is a 350 mile distance.   RAE LEWIS
